Chapter 6

If patience was a virtue, Sebastian thought someday there would be statues erected in his honor. But by the time he sat at the university fountain a couple of blocks down and across the street from Ganymede, his patience was running thin.

When he’d dropped Adam off Saturday night, he’d swung back around to the Whiskey Den, feeling both relieved and disappointed when he saw that one of the Monastery guards fetched Adam after closing. He was relieved that he didn’t have to worry about Adam’s trip home so late, and disappointed at the real-life demonstration of just how far he needed to stay away from him.

He hadn’t wanted the reminder.

If nothing else, Adam’s connection to the king’s betrothed put Sebastian at risk of a run-in with King Caspian. That was not an acquaintance he was interested in renewing.

Still, when he finally saw Adam heading his way, the giant duffle over his shoulder, he wanted nothing more than to hop up and meet him halfway.

He stayed seated.

“Good weekend?” He called out to Adam instead, when he was close enough. It was nearly eleven, and the university grounds were deserted with school out of session. “Want me to drive you home?”

Adam didn’t answer, instead, after checking the street, he jogged across to him, dropping his bag on the concrete, and not stopping until he’d pressed himself between Sebastian’s thighs where he sat on the fountain wall, and leaned in to press a kiss to his mouth.

Sebastian was so stunned, he wasn’t sure he moved.

“Thank you.” Adam smiled at him after he pulled away, and even though Sebastian was completely at a loss for what he was being thanked for, he reached up and pulled his mouth back to his. Because if he’d finally done something right, he was sure as fuck going to enjoy the reward.

He felt the moment Adam relinquished control of the kiss, leaning into him and opening for his tongue. He tasted like cherry candy, and something about that made Sebastian want to climb inside of him. Instead, he slid a hand up the back of Adam’s neck and into his hair, the other around his waist, and tugged him harder against him.

When they finally broke apart again, it was everything he could do not to beg Adam to come home with him. He never brought anyone home. Not once since he and Gideon had started to live together, and not before when he’d lived alone.

“What heroic deed am I being thanked for?”

Adam didn’t answer at first, instead, stepping away, and taking a seat on the wall close to him.

“You saved me the night at the Monastery. You made sure to get me out.”

Sebastian wasn’t sure he deserved a kiss for that, not when Adam had only been there because of Sebastian in the first place. But he didn’t say that, instead he was going to let himself enjoy the moment.

Ganymede was nestled among other retail shops—other clothiers, bookstores, even a chocolatier—all of them closed this late at night.
